Illinois Teen Builds 17.32-Foot Eiffel Tower From Toothpicks and Breaks Guinness World Record
An Illinois teenager has shown that creativity, patience, and hard work can achieve world records – literally! Eric Klabel, a teenager from Naperville, Illinois, has achieved a world record in the Guinness World Records with the construction of a 17.32-foot-tall Eiffel Tower using only toothpicks.
Who Is Eric Klabel?
Eric Klabel is no newcomer to breaking records through his projects.
Eric grew up in Naperville, Illinois, Eric developed a passion for building at a very young age. He credits his inspiration to his father, who is a civil engineer by profession.
“When I was young, I just got really, really interested in building things out of popsicle sticks,” Eric told WGN-TV.
Record-Breaking Journey Begins When He Was 12
In 2021, when Eric was only 12-years-old, he broke his first Guinness World Record creating a 20.2-foot tower with popsicle sticks. Although that record was later broken, Eric did not stop there.
Instead, he challenged himself with an even difficult material.
Why Toothpicks Were a Bigger Challenge
For his second Guinness World Record attempt, Eric chose to build using toothpicks , a material far smaller and more challenging to handle than popsicle sticks.
“The annoying thing about toothpicks—compared to popsicle sticks—they're just so incredibly tiny,” said Eric.
Eric took around 20,000 toothpicks and glue and built a scaled model of the Eiffel Tower accurately depicting its iconic form while ensuring it remains stable.
Why This Achievement Is So Inspiring
Eric Klabel’s story is more than a world record. it’s a powerful reminder that:
Creativity can start at a young age
Enginnering skills can also be acquired through projects.
Failure doesn't have to be an 'End,' but rather an 'Direction'
His work has been inspiring students and hobbyists and young engineers to pursue STEM and architectural fields.
Final Thoughts
Eric Klabel's toothpick Eiffel Tower shows that even the most ambitious dreams can be constructed using the tiniest materials. With passion and perseverance, this teenager from Illinois has etched his mark in the Guinness World Records not once but twice.
